The Beltsville Small White Turkey was developed by the USDA research center in Beltsville, Maryland. People wanted a smaller turkey that could fit into smaller ovens ·· and leave fewer leftovers! Five different breeds went into its development. Beltsville turkeys can mate on their own, making them easy for small scale farmers to raise. The Beltsville Small was popular through the 40s and 50s.
